Mt. Abram -- Greenwood, Maine
A verymaine.com introduction to Mt. Abram

(Click here to Search Maine Vacation Real Estate in the Greenwood region)

With a respectable 1,150-foot vertical drop, 44 diverse ski trails of excitement and pure fun, beautiful views, and both exciting and relaxing alternative activities to skiing, you can’t go wrong with choosing Mt. Abram as your ski area of choice when shopping for Maine vacation property.

Situated on Howe Hill Road in Greenwood, Maine off Route 26 and just down the street from Bethel, Maine, Mt. Abram is a family-friendly big-mountain winter experience that was recently dubbed “a little gem” of a ski resort by Ski Magazine.

If you’ve got the time and would like to experience all different levels, you can try all 44 trails, or sample the ones that suit your ability and desires best. You can take one of the five available lifts to the top and then have your pick from 10 beginner trails on wide, gentler slopes; 21 intermediate ski trails for a little more fun and excitement, such as the popular cruisers known as Dudley Do Right and Bullwinkle; as well as 13 most difficult trails for the more advanced and established skiers. Rocky’s Run, for example, offers some thrilling terrain and double black steeps for the expert skier.

If you’ve got a competitive streak, take some time to participate in or witness the weekly NASTAR ski race. Mt. Abram also boasts the longest tubing park in all of the state. At 1,325 feet long, the Flying Squirrel Snow-Tubing Park is perfect for those who just love tubing or simply want to try their hand at something other than skiing. A special tubing lift is available for those who want to have a go at tubing. If you want to take a more leisurely approach to skiing, take a buddy and traverse through the woods on the cross-country skiing loop at Mt. Abram.

Other features, services, and amenities offered by Mt. Abram include two base lodges, a ski school with top-notch expert instruction for all ages and levels, a day care so parents can leave their children behind for awhile in order to enjoy a private ski, a fully equipped ski shop with plenty of available rental equipment for skiing and snowboarding, nighttime skiing for a different and exciting ski experience, a full-service cafeteria, and the ever-popular Loose Boots lounge, with a restaurant, bar, and live entertainment. Mt. Abram also features a number of different events and special activities every single week throughout the season for the whole family.

Consider looking for and purchasing vacation property real estate in and around Mt. Abram so you can enjoy everything available at this fun ski area season after season, year after year, while making your own investment. Check around for available vacation properties as well as prices. Mt. Abram also introduced a slope-side subdivision on the Westside area a few years back that offer ski-in, ski-out access. Given the cost of what a similar property costs up the street at Sunday River, these lots represent a pretty good value.

Another area of Mt. Abram that is worth looking into if you are looking for Maine vacation real estate near Mt. Abram is the small neighborhoods that exist at the base of the mountain and off of Howe Hill Road. Great deals can be had and the most of these cottages are in walking distance to the base lodge.
