Camden Snow Bowl -- Camden, Maine
A verymaine.com introduction to The Camden Snow Bowl

(Click here to Search Maine Vacation Real Estate in the Greenwood region)

While technically a family recreational ski area owned by the community and not an official “ski resort” of Maine, Camden Snow Bowl on Hosmer Pond Road in Camden is a beautiful, fun-filled, and thrilling winter activity paradise for families looking for an affordable way to spend their vacation. If you’re shopping for Maine vacation property and you find something you like in the Camden region, the Snow Bowl is a bonus winter attraction that adds “four season” usability to your Maine cottage. Most folks who plan to purchase vacation real estate in Maine have to choose between skiing and winter activities or coastal and lake front summer fun. But not if your Maine vacation property is in the Camden area.

Considered “where the mountains meet the sea,” Camden Snow Bowl, just a quick drive from the scenic Camden Harbor, offers a truly unique skiing experience, allowing you to enjoy the slopes and terrain while basking in the views of Penobscot Bay.

Camden Snow Bowl, on the 1,300-foot Ragged Mountain, provides close to 1,000 feet of vertical drop, with 10 ski trails to choose from including two beginner trails, seven intermediate trails, and one most difficult ski trail. Two popular ski trails are the Spinnaker and Northeaster, which give you maximum height and length. All 10 trails lead to the main lodge, which offers a number of amenities and services.

The Snow Bowl also includes a terrain park, a total of four lifts (two T-bars, a double chair lift, and a surface lift) as well as 45 percent snowmaking.

If you’re looking for some skiing alternatives, give snowboarding here a try, take a tube down the 500-foot snow tubing hill, go tobogganing down the “famous” 400-foot toboggan chute (where the National Toboggan Championships are held in early February), go ice skating on Hosmer Pond, or you can go cross-country skiing or snowshoeing on the groomed trails.

For skiing and snowboarding beginners and first-timers, as well as those of you who would simply like to improve your skill level, even if you’ve been skiing or snowboarding for awhile, take advantage of the Snow Bowl’s lessons and programs at the area’s ski and snowboard school for all ages and abilities (reservations are highly recommended). You can also participate in the Ragged Mountain Ski & Snowboarding Club.

When the snow melts and summer is a-comin’, the fun doesn’t stop here at Camden Snow Bowl, a year-round recreational center. You can enjoy activities such as mountain biking, hiking, tennis, swimming, fishing, and boating. The facilities (namely the Snow Bowl Lodge) can also be rented throughout the year for any number of events ranging from weddings and anniversaries to banquets, fundraisers, company picnics, and reunions.

The fact that you can enjoy Camden Snow Bowl on a year-round basis is a main drawing factor for those that choose to purchase Maine real estate in the area, allowing them to vacation at the Snow Bowl regularly and enjoy its many activities, events, and amenities throughout the year. If this sounds intriguing to you, take a closer look at the many options for vacation property real estate available near the Snow Bowl.
